Onawe Peninsula January 2023
Ōnawe peninsula is an volcanic plug in Akaroa Harbour, part of the Banks Peninsula Volcano, last active approximately 10 million years ago. The site is scared to Maori and was a Ngāi Tahu pa, captured in a bloody battle with Ngāi Toa in 1831.
I was investigating natural patterns in the rock formations and the human made patterns in the grasslands as walkways.
There is a comparison also on a larger scale between the ancient landscape and the housing development at Ngaio Point in the background.
