Track along Aylmers Stream/Pākaiariki to Newton’s Waterfall, Akaroa.
Pākaiariki is fed from the water catchment of Misty Peaks Reserve/Ōteauheke which lies within Ngai Tahu land. Once pastoral land used by settlers it is now under Christchurch City Council management and is being regenerated to . Priority is placed on protecting and maintaining the quality of the water for ecological reasons, it is also is the main water supply to Akaroa. Mana whenua describe that the management of the various environment ( land, fresh water and marine water) should be considered holistically “ki uta ki tai” (from mountains to sea)
